Connecticut Laborers' District Council

"Working Everyday To Build A Stronger Economy And A Brighter Future For Our Families".

ABOUT THE CONNECTICUT LABORERS' DISTRICT COUNCIL AND THE LABORERS' INTERNATIONAL UNION OF NORTH AMERICA

The Laborers are one of the fastest-growing unions in North America. Laborers fight for more opportunity for workers and employers, and for better wages, good benefits and safe jobsites. Laborers build everything from skyscrapers to tunnels. Laborers make buildings safe by removing hazardous materials like asbestos and lead. Laborers serve the public in hospitals and government across the continent. Laborers unite for the voice we deserve in important political issues.  Members run the union, electing officers at all levels and participating in the day-to-day affairs of their local unions. Members set priorities for contracts and are the key in the union's growth and success at increasing market share.

The Laborers have grown from 8,000 members in 1903 to more than 700,000 today.  The Connecticut Laborers' District Council is led by Charles LeConche, Business Manager and International Representative for the Laborers' International Union of North America.

About Charles LeConche, Business Manager, Connecticut Laborers' District Council
Charles LeConche began his career as a construction laborer as he served as a foreman and steward for several major building and construction contractors in Connecticut and throughout the northeast. Shortly after, he became a field representative for the Connecticut Laborers' District Council (
www.ctlpl.com), a member of the Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA.org) and later graduated from the Harvard Business School (www.hbs.edu). Several years later, he was elected as president of the Connecticut Laborers' Local Union 230, Hartford, Connecticut and after that, Charles LeConche was elected as business manager of Local Union 230.

During the last several years, Charles LeConche was elected business manager of the Connecticut Laborers' District Council and was immediately highly successful in creating new strategic alliances with business owners and managers who had not previously considered a relationship with the Laborers' Union. Charles LeConche was instrumental in the formation of the Connecticut First Coalition (
www.ctfirst.com), which is an alliance of companies, political leaders, labor officials and individuals promoting the Connecticut economy and finding better ways to invest in order to protect Connecticut taxpayers.

One of the ways Charles LeConche has expanded the Connecticut economy is by developing a number of job training and life skills programs along with several other organizations in a cooperative partnership program. Some of these strategic business partners include Capital Workforce Partners (
www.capitalworkforce.org), AGC-Laborers' Training Program (www.laborers-agc.org) and the Connecticut Department of Labor (www.ctdol.state.ct.us).

Charles LeConche has also actively promoted the work of the Connecticut Minority Construction Council and helped to expand its role in the marketplace in Connecticut. Along such entities as the Associated General Contractors of Connecticut (
www.agc.org), Connecticut Construction Industries Association (www.ctconstruction.org) and the Connecticut Road Builders Association (www.ctconstruction.org), Charles LeConche has played an integral role in building the vitality of the Connecticut economy for over 20 years.

He is a frequent speaker and business and political events and has received awards from the Connecticut Business Hall Of Fame (
www.ctbhof.com) and the Connecticut Minority Construction Council.

Charles LeConche along with all of the officials and members of the Connecticut Laborers' District Council have been longtime and dedicated supporters of various nonprofit community organizations including the Connecticut Nutmeg State Game (
www.nutmegstategames.org), Make A Wish Foundation of Connecticut (www.ct.wish.org), Connecticut Association of Latinos in Higher Education (www.calahe.org), Roberto Clemente Baseball Little League, HART (www.hartnet.org), Interval House, House of Bread (www.hobread.org), My Sisters' Place (www.sistersplacect.org), Ann's Place (www.annsplace.org), Children's Law Center (www.clcct.org), Swim Across The Sound (www.swimacrossthesound.org) and March of Dimes (www.marchofdimes.com/connecticut).
