(Hartford, CT) – The Connecticut Laborers’ District Council announced today that it has officially endorsed the candidacy of U.S. Congressman Chris Murphy (D-5th CT) for U.S. Senate representing Connecticut.

“From his days in the Connecticut General Assembly to his present work in the United States Congress, we have always found Chris Murphy to be a hard-working legislator, smartly representing the interests and concerns of his district. Chris thoroughly understands his role as a politician and representative of the people and has fought diligently to improve the lives of workers and their families here in Connecticut,” said Charles LeConche, business manager, Connecticut Laborers’ District Council. “The Connecticut Laborers’ which includes over 7,500 workers in Connecticut proudly endorses Chris Murphy for his candidacy for U.S. Senate.”

“Chris Murphy has been a longtime, positive force for all workers and their families. From his days as chairperson of the Connecticut Public Health Committee fighting for affordable health care to his role in the U.S. Congress looking for new ways to improve our nation’s classrooms and education system, Chris Murphy will continue to be driving force in the U.S. Senate after he wins the primary and general election race in 2012,” said Jeff Merrow, business manager, Laborers’ Local 611 and president, Waterbury Building & Construction Trades.

The Connecticut Laborers’ District Council represents approximately 7,500 members employed in the construction industry, public sector and other building and trade fields throughout the state. The Laborers’ International Union of North America, founded in 1903 largely by immigrant workers, includes more than 800,000 members who work in construction and hazardous materials remediation, as well as in healthcare, the U.S. Postal Service and other public service sectors of the economy.
